What is OEE?
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is a widely used manufacturing measure that combines Availability, Performance and Quality into one view of productive effectiveness.
Availability
Availability looks at how much planned production time the equipment was actually running.
Performance
Performance compares actual production pace with the expected or ideal pace for the work being produced.
Quality
Quality reflects the proportion of output that meets the required standard. OEE is most useful when teams also look beneath the headline percentage to understand which component is driving the loss.

Is a higher OEE always better?
Improvement is useful, but the number should be interpreted alongside the operating context, product mix and the underlying Availability, Performance and Quality losses.
Should OEE be the only manufacturing KPI?
No. Output, schedule attainment, downtime, quality, safety and other measures can all be important depending on the operation.
